Every Tuesday, crows gathered near the food bin behind our school. I first thought they knew what day it was. Then I noticed that the lid was left open after the cooking club used the bin.
We watched from a distance for two weeks. On days when the lid was closed, the birds still came near, but they did not find food there. The club made a reminder sign and checked the lid after cleaning up.
The crows did not disappear from the town, and that was not our goal. We wanted to keep food waste inside the bin. I had begun with a funny story about clever birds. I ended with a question about our own habit.
