After a storm, bottles, rope, and fishing line wash up on a local beach. Wind, rivers, and ocean currents can move debris far from its starting point.
On Sunday, each volunteer wears gloves for a cleanup. They do not touch sharp or unknown objects. An adult records those items and handles them safely.
Marine debris can hurt wildlife when animals eat it or become trapped in it. Removing it helps, but stopping litter before it reaches water is also important.
