Our running team kept a chart of practice times. When my pace stopped improving, I added extra laps after everyone left. I felt proud of the effort, but I also felt tired before the next session.
My coach noticed and asked about my sleep and meals. She did not diagnose me from a chart. Instead, she suggested that I talk with my family and follow the team's planned rest days while we watched how I felt. I was surprised to learn that doing less on one day could support better practice later.
For two weeks I recorded both activity and recovery. My times did not improve in a straight line, but I arrived at practice more prepared. I also stopped treating every slower day as proof that I was failing.
The chart still helped me, provided I read it alongside my body and the advice of responsible adults. Training is not a contest to fill every hour. Rest can be part of the work.
